About the Friends

Friends of St John's

The Friends of St John’s School is a registered charity and is a very supportive group of parents who actively support the school. Every parent of a child in the school is automatically a member of ‘The Friends’ and many attend regular committee meetings, get involved with social and fundraising events and help plan new ventures. We have a ‘Friends’ notice board in the playground which will keep you informed of forthcoming events.  In addition, there are Class Representatives of the Friends who liaise with the parents in their particular year group.

The Friends have 3 aims;

     Fundraising for the school

     Organising activities that the children enjoy and benefit from

      Providing social opportunities and building a school community

Every family that joins St John’s is automatically a member of the Friend’s, how involved you become is up to you.

 The Friend’s organise regular events such as the Summer and Christmas Fairs, weekly cake sales, clothing collections, quiz night and projects like Christmas cards.   In recent years we have been able to donate over £10,000 a year to the school which has been spent on new equipment like iPads for the children to use.

It’s not all about the money though… the children love the Friends’ end of year disco and we serve refreshments at a host of school events. At Christmas, the Friends’ pay for a professional theatre group to come and perform for the children and we provide crackers for the school Christmas lunch.

How you can help

The first way to help is to turn up and enjoy yourself! We’re grateful to everyone who supports our events; thank you.

We are always looking for volunteers to serve refreshments, cover stalls and bake cakes too.   If you are able to spare some time, however little, please let us know.

FREE MONEY!! There are a number of fundraising initiatives that don’t cost you a penny, but raise money for the school:

  1. Register with easyfundraising.co.uk – a cash back scheme that gives money to the school when you shop at your normal online retailers including Amazon, John Lewis, Tesco and many more.
  2. Hold onto your old clothes! Twice a year we organise a clothing collection at the school.
  3. Recycle your ink cartridges and cables – this is a new scheme – look out for details.
  4. Can your employer help? If your employer offers a match funding scheme, please let us know! We are grateful for raffle donations too.

New ideas and a fresh outlook are always welcomed. Come along to a Friend’s meeting, where you can find out more about what we do, put forward new ideas or find out how you can help at an event.
