Dear Parents/Carers
Thank you for choosing St John’s Primary School for your child. We are really looking forward to working with you over your child’s primary years.
We understand that some children may find starting a new school a bit daunting and we know how important it is that their first experiences of full-time education are happy and fulfilling. To help make this transition as easy as possible, we invite you and your child to the school to learn more about us and visit you at home to learn more about your child. Our reception class is called Rabbits.
Understanding your child is very important to us. Towards the end of this term, our Rabbits staff team will be communicating with your child’s pre-school or nursery to help us discover your child’s talents and learning needs.
New Rabbits Induction Session – Tuesday 30th June from 1.45pm to 2.45pm
Your child is invited to spend a session here at St John’s on Tuesday 30th June. The children will work with members of staff, get to know their surroundings and meet some of their new class mates. Children should come in their own clothes without a bag or coat (unless it is raining). Drinking water will be available – so please don’t bring water bottles. Please come to the Outdoor Learning Area where your child’s teacher will be waiting to welcome your child. From experience, we usually find it more beneficial for your child if you say goodbye at this point.
During this pupil induction session, we will be serving tea/coffee and biscuits for you, so that you can stay on the school site and get to know some of the other parents.
Home visits and September staggered start
Home visits form a vital part of the induction process, enabling you and your child to get to know members of staff in an environment where you and they feel safe and secure. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and for staff to get to know what interests your child, in order to plan an appropriate and relevant curriculum. Visits will take place during the daytime from Wednesday 2nd September and you will be allocated a date and time according to your home address.
The day after your home visit, you are invited to come into school for a small group stay and play session, as a further opportunity for your child to become familiar with the school setting and meet some other new children in a small group, with their parents. This will be from 9.15 -10.15am.
Once all the home visits are complete the children will come into school for a longer session, 11.15am to 3pm, including a school lunch, on either 9th or 10th September (you will be advised which day).
All the class will then start full time on 11th September.
You will be given your child’s home visit, stay and play and half-day dates at our meeting on 9th June.
For further information about the school, please visit our website at www.stjohns-redhill.surrey.sch.uk where you can read our current and past newsletters which include a list of forthcoming events.
We would love to welcome you and your family to The Friend’s Summer Fair on Saturday 13th June from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.
If you have any other queries, please telephone the school office, 01737 763804 and we will do our best to help you.
Yours sincerely
